The Vitamin D Experiment

After listening to a Steve Gibson podcast on Vitamin D, I have decided to start an experiment by supplementing this new Vitamin (evidently it is not really a vitamin at all, but rather a steroid hormone) into my diet. I was intrigued by the information that I gleaned from Steve's podcast. There really is nothing to lose and a year's supply of the Vitamin D capsules costs less than $10.

This morning, I took Steve's advice and went to iHerb and purchased the Vitamin D-3 5,000 IU supplement that comes in a 120 Softgel count. My plan is to take one softgel tablet every three days for one year. I haven't quite figured out exaclty what or how I will measure my progress (or lack thereof). The most practicle number I have come up with that I can easily measure is my blood pressure. I will go to publix and get a blood pressure test before I begin taking the Vitamin. I am also going to measure my energy levels, but I do not know a good way to do this other than document how I feel week to week.

Well it has been quite a long time since I have updated the Freeze Time blog. Actually it has been over a year and a half. The family is doing well. Zach will be four in about one month, on 11/23/09. Chandler will be two years old in less than four months on 2/1/10! Zach and Chandler are both growing up fast. In two years Zach will be well into his first year of Kindergarden!

Laura is doing well, still working at the Career Center at the local High School. One big change since the last blog post is that we moved houses. We miss our old neighbors and subdivision, but we are making new friends in our new place and are enjoying the change.

Chandler came home from the hospital last Sunday (2/3/08). Everyone is trying to adjust themselves to the "baby" schedule. He is eating every three hours through day and night. He seems to like his new environment. Brad and Laura are trying to get their sleep so they can have enough energy to take care of Zach during the waking hours.

Speaking of Zach, he is adjusting well and is taking a liking to Chandler. We think that he is beginning to grasp the concept that he is now a big brother. Here is a picture of Zach with Chandler.

Chandler's First Night

Chandler made it through his first night. This picture was a rare moment where he was actually sleeping. He is a hungry little guy and eats almost constantly. Hopefully we all will be taking a nap soon. Chandler passed his hearing test this morning. He has a big day ahead of him. We are expecting Zach to arrive this morning so that he meet his new brother. Laura and I are anticipating his reaction to little Chandler.

Chandler David Martin was born at 10:55am on February 1st, 2008. He was 7lbs 15oz and 21.25 inches long.

Getting Closer

It is now 10:30am. We are at 9cm!!! They are prepping the room for delivery. Laura has blown through active labor. The nurse is calling the Dr.

Epidural Is In

Now it is 9:45. The Dr. just finished with the epidural so Laura's pain is subsiding. Her contractions are about three minutes apart. Now we wait.

Labor is progressing

Laura's labor is moving along. It is 9:30am now. The contractions are 2 - 5 minutes apart at this point. Her epidural is on the way so she won't have to endure the pain too much longer. Dr. Jo came in to see Laura at 8:15am. She said that everything is looking good. That is all for now.

We got admitted to the hospital last night around 10:00. After some initial paper work and some hook-ups to the contraction monitor, we were able to get some sleep.

Now it is 6:20am on February 1st. A nurse came by at 6:00am to give Laura the pitocin in her IV. Now we are going to try to get another hour of sleep before things really get moving.

Well, lots has happened since the last post. We stayed very busy for the rest of 2007. In the fall, we went on a family trip to Cleveland, OH to see our friends (Matthew & Ann, and Erin & Dave). We had a terrific Thanksgiving home in Smyrna. Christmas was a blast this year as Zach was able to really tear into his presents. We took some time away from work and enjoyed family and friends. This is Zach on his new bike that he got for Christmas from Santa!

I am writing this post tonight so that we can document the even that is about to unfold. Laura is being admited to Northside hospital tonight (1/31/08) in preparation for the deliver of baby Chandler tomorrow morning. Zach has left to stay with his Aunt Rachel and Grandparents for the next few days. I will be posting daily updates over the next week to keep everyone in the loop. Laura is feeling a little nervous (which is to be expected). I am shutting down this computer and then we will be off to NorthSide.

It's a Boy !!

Laura and I found out last Monday (9/10) that we will be having another boy in February 2008. Zach will have a little brother to hang with. We are all excited and looking forward to the addition to the family. We are preparing for Zach to move from his nursery to the Big Boy room (that is the bonus room above our garage). It has been a while since I posted but I will be posting more now that summer is over and I have more time.

Bye-Bye Subaru

Well.... since Laura and I will be having our second child, we figure that car space me be running out. So.... I will be selling the WRX. A very sad moment indeed. Anyway, once we sell the Subaru, we will purchase something with a little more room. It was the best car I ever owned. Hopefully it will be taken care of by it's next owner. Zach's New Sibling

Well, Zach will be getting a new sibling in February! We found out in June that Laura is pregnant! We are pretty excited and are getting ready to make a few changes. Stay tuned. More blogs on this subject will be posted soon.

Myrtle Beach

We spent our Summer family vacation at Myrtle beach with our friends Jeffrey and Julie and their daughter Kerri. We all had a fantastic time. Zach really enjoyed himself on the sand and in the water. He especially liked the hose where you wash the sand off your feet.

I got to play golf with Jeffrey two of the days. Laura enjoyed relaxing on the beach and catching up with Julie.

Trip to Tampa

On July 3rd, I flew from Atlanta to Tampa to see Nenee, Papa, and Connie. I helped Papa purchase a laptop from Dell and wanted to help him set everything up. Papa is now officially the oldest person I know who has a wireless network in his home. We had a very short visit and I flew back to Atlanta on the eve of July 4th.

We spent this past weekend at Lake Burton with Laura's family. Zach got to see fireworks from the boat. He played very hard around the lake house and didn't want to take a nap the first day. So here is a picture of him the second day when he was catching up on his rest.

San Francisco

This week I have been in San Francisco at a Burton Group IT conference. The best part of the trip was catching up with my friend John Wise. He just finished up his PhD in astrophysics. John is about to move to D.C. to start his career with NASA.

I am about to head back home now. It is 3:12 local time and I am sitting in the lobby of the Hilton Hotel. My flight doesn't leave until 6:15 but I couln't sleep because the guy I shared a room with snors like a freight train. My boss's boss planed the entire trip and insisted we share rooms. That is the last time I do that.

T2 City Champions!!!

Today, Laura and her tennis partner Laurie, won the Atlanta T2 City Finals for their division. It was terrific tennis to watch. It all came down to the third set. Laura and Laurie held strong in the 95 degree heat to take the City title. The final scores were 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Aunt Elayne's Birthday

Today we celebrated Aunt Elayne's Birthday at Nuevo Laredo. Everyone had a great time. Zach enjoyed some sweet peas and tortilla chips. Elayne said that she went out last night, which was her actual Birthday, with my Mom to New York Prime. This is a picture of Elayne and Zach which was taken outside of Nuevo Laredo.

Summer of Love

Even though Summer has not officially arrived, it is in full effect in the Martin household. We went to lake Burton with Laura's family for Memorial Day. Needless to say, everyone had a blast. Laura, Zach, and I went to Florida with my parents two weeks ago to visit my Aunt and Grandparents. Zach really enjoyed himself and even got to go on a boat ride on the Homosassa river. Zach got to see a live manatee in the back of Nenee and Papa's house in the canal! The weather was kind of cool and rainy due to a tropical storm that brought much needed rain to Florida and south Georgia.

The weekend after we got back from Florida, Laura threw me a 30th birthday party with all my friends. What a great time. I couldn't believe how many of my friends made it over to our house for the party. Other than Matthew, all my closest friends made it. Matthew and his wife Ann had to move their entire house up to Cleveland, OH two days before. Laura did a terrific job planning my party. Everything turned out perfect.

So whats next for the summer plans? We are planning another quick trip to the lake on June 28th. Zach will get to see the fireworks over the water again this year. Then we are off to Mrytle beach with the Deasons for a full week of rest and relaxation. Laura and I are also looking forward to seeing 311 on July 21st. Then Laura, Zach, and I will travel to Tampa Florida for another visit to Nenee, Papa, and Connie. Papa just bought a laptop and I want to make sure everything gets set up just right.

Welcome to Freeze Time

As the first post to Freeze Time, I would like to take a minute to explain the title. As Ferris Bueller says, "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it". Let's face it. Ferris is absolutely right. Everything in life is either a feeling of anticipation, or a memory of a once anticipated event. This blog is intended to capture memories and provide a place to "stop and look around." As for myself, Freeze Time will help me preserve the memories that I cherish.
The title itself comes from the revolutionary rock band 311. In the song titled "Freeze Time", Nick sings about trying to capture those moments in time where you really don't want to leave.
